Yoshito Ohno likewise has a legendary status in the history of butoh and is an outstanding dancer. In spite of this, he has spent almost all of his career producing and backing up his father's performances. In public, he has always treated his father not as family but as a pioneering dancer. This father-son relationship struck me as quite odd and unusual. It so happened that, just when I began communicating with Ohno in 1999, my own father was on his deathbed. I think this is why I naturally became intrigued with their relationship.
